CAAMSonora 2020
El Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno presenta la cuarta edición del programa ‘CAAMSonora’ que, bajo la dirección del artista Paco Rossique, pretende acercar al público el arte sonoro. Este año, con las especiales circunstancias derivadas de la pandemia del coronavirus, este festival dedicado al arte sonoro y la música electrónica se desarrolla en formato virtual, de julio a diciembre de 2020, con una propuesta cada mes.
La iniciativa contará con la participación de seis artistas nacionales, algunos ya conocidos por los-as seguidores-as de ‘CAAMSonora’, que presentan al público de forma virtual sus propuestas sonoras centradas en el espíritu de este ciclo y que ampliarán el espectro del arte que se escucha, ya presentado durante años anteriores en el CAAM.

The Outcast on the Ivories
Here are several fascinating instances of one of the oldest and most iconic instruments in conventional music making purposeful appearances in abstract soundscapes. Whether the piano is sighing gorgeous melodic resolutions, atonal chords, or simply being softly plinked every once in a while, these tracks all communicate a sense of loneliness and withdrawal.

La experiencia vivida por todos durante el confinamiento y el estado de alarma por la crisis sanitaria, ha sido y sigue siendo dura. A unos les ha afectado más que a otros por tener conocidos o familiares enfermos. La estancia en casa influye a la hora de seguir con nuestro camino artístico o laboral, en lo físico y en lo mental. Son muchas semanas las que han pasado, y nos quedan aún muchas más para volver a una aparente normalidad.
Se me ocurrió lanzar una propuesta para unir en un recopilatorio ideas, sensaciones, y discursos sobre la reclusión. De la mejor manera que podríamos hacer los que exploramos con sonidos. Para algunos es una manera de superar el pozo profundo, para otros es colaboración sin indicios conceptuales, pero todos parten de lo participativo desde su propia idiosincrasia. Confinescapes es un juego de palabras (confinamiento y paisaje sonoro) que adquiere un sentido diferente por ser un período triste que ha truncado los proyectos de muchos de los que aquí participan (talleres, conciertos, venta de discos, giras).
Lo primero es vencer la pandemia, luego vendrá lo demás. Y desde un espíritu de unidad y solidaridad, presento en República Ibérica Ruidista esta colección de piezas que tienen su propia estética sonora, su propio mensaje, su no mensaje, su experiencia, en torno a un aislamiento que tiene como sentido el de prevenir y evitar más muertes.
El eclecticismo de las composiciones es brutal, siendo una muestra de lo que se hace en nuestro país al margen de los géneros y canales masivos. Música concreta, drone, dark ambient, noise, plunderphonics, electrónica abstracta, síntesis granular, improvisación, techno, field recordings, etc.
Son piezas oníricas, crudas, aislacionistas. Y otras hiperrealistas, que desde su sencillez, aportan una sinceridad que traspasa nuestros tímpanos y no traslada a esa habitación con olor a cigarrillo "especial" o a la terraza con niños. Grabación de campo.

I started coming up with the idea for the >>>>Self Isolating Compilation<<<<< just before the full lockdowns started - we were all being told it would be a good idea to stay at home, but the Governmental edicts hadn't started. By the time the last tracks came in we are all forced to stay in, and find new ways of working.
For musicians this enforced isolation seems especially cruel, as music is, possibly above all, a social activity that explores not just the interaction between musicians, but also between musicians and an audience.
Even if I avoid the cliche of the falling tree in an empty forest, the idea of making music in a void seems strange.
These 85 (Eighty Five!) tracks are an attempted answer to the conundrum, all recorded in isolation at home, and almost all solo (the exceptions being three improvising musicians who share a house, and a father and son duo) throughout the world. There are tracks from UK, USA, France, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Ireland and the Canary Islands. The result is a kaleidoscope of variety - electronics, acoustic improvisations, the odd song and a poem.
This may feel like 85 individuals shouting into the maelstrom, or whistling in the dark, but it's really the sounds of people coming to terms with the isolation and being creative, and it is remarkably cohesive
But there is a secondary purpose. For Volume Two I will be asking musicians and others to mix three or four selected tracks together in remixes and mash-ups, so the musicians play together again in new combinations.
The tracks are all issued under a creative commons licence, so you are also welcome to combine and weave the tracks together in any way you wish - but please let us know about them.
This compilation is free to download, but you can choose to pay if you wish, and any money generated will be used to help move Linear Obsessional back into being a functional record label again.
